Dogs on the beach

We the undersigned petition the council to hear our suggestion as to how dogs and people can enjoy the same beach with out causing any problems. Currently dogs are banned from walking on ANY part of the beach from Old Leigh all the way to Shoeburyness from May 1st to Sept 30th. We do not think that it is fair that residents who own dogs are not allowed to enjoy the beach at all during this time. We do however also understand that it is not desirable to have dogs on the beach while there are a large number of people on the beach.

Firstly the beach is huge and all that live, work and contribute to the local community should be able to enjoy it and all that the borough has to offer.

There are parts of the beach that are so muddy and rocky and far from any facilities that they are not suitable for families.

We see no reason that those areas can not be used by dog walkers all year round, at any time.

In addition we suggest that dogs are allowed on any part of the beach between the hours of 7pm and 9am when there are fewer people using the beach.

To see the suggested section please see the "let our dogs on the beach this summer" Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/letdogsonthebeach

I also suggest on the spot fines of £100 for those that are caught not clearing up their dog mess

We have requested the opinions of the pro and against argument and we have adequately addressed any concerned that have been raised by the opposition.
