Resolved:

That the proposed new schedule of authorised fares not be implemented and the existing schedule of authorised fares remain in effect.

684The Committee received a report of the Corporate Director for Place which invited Members to consider the objections that had been received in response to the statutory advertisement of the new schedule of authorised fares which had been approved by the Committee at its meeting on 15 November 2013 (Minute 490 refers). A copy of all the objections that had been received, together with a copy of the proposed new schedule of fares had been circulated to the Committee prior to the meeting.

Mr G Hutchinson, secretary of a local Hackney Carriage Association, attended the meeting as one of the objectors and addressed the Committee on his objection to the proposed increase. Mr Preedy, Secretary of the Southend Licensed Taxi Drivers' Association, also attended the meeting and addressed the Committee on the objections and provided clarification on the reasons for seeking the new schedule of fares

Members took the opportunity to ask a number of questions regarding the proposed increase, including the procedure for consulting on fare increases. Whilst it was noted that the statutory procedures had been followed, Members made a number of suggestions how the process for consulting on proposed increases in hackney carriage fares could be enhanced. In the light of the objections that had been received, the Committee:-
