556The Committee considered the report of the Corporate Director for Corporate Services that informed Members of the ongoing work and proposals to resolve the situation regarding FP86 Leigh on Sea and the claim by the Ramblers Association that a public right of way for persons on foot subsists, or could reasonably be alleged to subsist, over land at the nature reserve adjacent to Belton Way West and farm land owned by the Salvation Army. The report also sought the Committee's support of the preferred option to resolve the situation.

Copies of the plans and aerial photographs of the proposals were displayed and explained at the meeting. Members discussed the options in detail and asked a number of questions relating to the existing footpath and the reasons for diverting it.

The Committee asked that the farmer of be reminded of his obligation to re-instate the existing line of Footpath 86 until such time as any diversion is confirmed. Furthermore, that any interference with the new route by the farmer will not be tolerated.
