Opposition Business - Notices of Motion referred to Working Parties PDF 87 KB Motion attached Additional documents: Minutes: In accordance with Standing Order 19 the Conservative Group requested that the following proposal be debated:
‘To reverse the decision to refer all motions to the working parties and reinstate that all motions are referred direct to Cabinet.’
During consideration of the matter two amendments were proposed and seconded as follows:
Amendment 1:
To amend Standing Order 8.4 so that it reads:
‘Motions of which notice has been duly given, shall beformally moved and seconded and shall thereupon stand referred to the relevant Cabinet Working Party, within two months of the Council meeting, for consideration and report who shall invite the mover and seconder of the motion in question to attend the meeting of the Cabinet Working Party at which the motion is considered and afford them an opportunity of explaining and commenting on the motion.’
Upon being put to the vote, amendment 1 was not carried.
Amendment 2:
To amend Standing Order 8.4 so that it reads:
‘Motions of which notice has been duly given, shall beformally moved and seconded and shall thereupon stand referred to the relevant Scrutiny Committee, for consideration and report who shall invite the mover and seconder of the motion in question to attend the meeting of the Scrutiny Committee at which the motion is considered and afford them an opportunity of explaining and commenting on the motion.’
Upon being put to the vote, amendment 2 was not carried.
The Opposition Business proposal to ‘reverse the decision to refer all motions to the working parties and reinstate that all motions are referred direct to Cabinet’ was then put to the vote. The proposal was not carried.
Accordingly, resolved that no change be made to Standing Order 8.4. |
