We the undersigned petition the council to All cities have there share with areas of crime, everybody knows that ; we as conservatives will do everything we can to support law abiding citizens and stomp down on crime. Dimming the street lights will not only increase crime, but also the fear of crime.In other parts of the city, women are already reporting feeling unsafe at night. The proposal to dim the street lights by up to 70% from 10pm at night could lead to an increase in violence against women, crime, especially car crime and put people, especially the elderly, at increased risk of trips and falls. Driving is potentially more prone to accidents and CCTV is also reliant on sufficient lighting to be able to obtain quality images of suspects of crime. We petition the Council not to dim the street lights .
As stated, i consider that dimming street lights would not only increase the risk of crime but also the fear of crime in Southend
