Resolved:

That, under Section 100(A)(4) of the Local Government Act 1972, the public be excluded from the meeting for the items of business set out below on the grounds that they involve the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in Part 1 of Schedule 12A to the Act, and that the public interest in maintaining the exemption outweighs the public interest in disclosing the information.

1178 Appointments to School Governing Bodies

Resolved:

1. That the following persons be appointed to vacancies on the governing bodies indicated:

Emily Cammidge - Chalkwell Hall
Alan Carroll - Leigh North Steet
Sally Monk - Belfairs High

2. That in the case of the appointment of Councillors to Local Authority vacancies on School Governing Bodies, the Members of the Committee be consulted on the proposed appointments and that, in the event no comments or concerns are received from any Member(s) of the Committee, by the deadline stated, the Corporate Director Children & Learning, in consultation with the Chairman of the Committee, be authorised to make the appointment. If however, any Member of the Committee does express a concern within the specified timescale, the matter be referred to the Committee for consideration at its next meeting.

1178The Committee received a report of the Corporate Director Children & Learning which informed Members of vacancies for Local Authority Appointments to School Governing Bodies and of the nominations received for consideration.

The report also sought Members' views on the review of the delegation of the appointment of Councillors to Local Authority vacancies on School Governing Bodies to the Corporate Director Children & Learning following the completion of the six month trial period. It was noted that concerns had been expressed at consultation process and that it had been suggested that it be widened to include the Leaders of each political group represented on the Committee.
