Current ePetitions

The Council welcomes petitions and recognises that petitions are one way in which people can let us know their concerns. Anyone who lives, works or studies in the City of Southend-on-Sea (including under 18’s) can sign or organise a petition.

The Council is pleased to advise that it agreed that the Petition Scheme should continue to operate notwithstanding the repeal of the relevant legislation (by s46 of the Localism Act 2011).

Another way you can have your voice heard is by taking part in consultations that the council is running. To find out more please visit the Your Say Southend site. You can register today and join in with surveys and polls, find out about local engagement events and other ways to share your views about the issues that are important to you.

Submitting an e-Petition

If you wish to create a new e-petition, you should first examine existing petitions to ensure that you are not duplicating an existing one.

You will need to provide us with the title of the petition, a clear and concise statement about the subject of the petition and what action you want the Council to take (or cease to take). You will also need to decide how long you would like your petition to be open for signatures. Most petitions run for 6 months but you can choose a shorter or longer time frame.

When you create an e-petition, it may take 5 working days before it is published on-line. This is because we have to check that the content of your petition is suitable before it is made available for signature.

Petitions on planning and licensing matters are not permissible under the scheme. Please read our Additional Information document. In the Council’s Petition Scheme you will find details about submitting paper based/hard copy petitions.

The Petitions Officer is Colin Gamble, Group Manager, Democratic Services who can be contacted by email at committeesection@southend.gov.uk or by phone on 01702 215000.
